| F | End of word |
| V | Vowel |
| C | Any consonant or consonant cluster |
| NMNH | One of the consonants written n, m, or nh |
| LSN | One of the consonants written l, s or n |
| [CP] | One of the consonants written c or p |
| [CĒT] | One of the consonants written c, ē or t |
| EI | Any front vowel |
| AOU | Any back vowel |
| Lower case letter | That letter itself |
