Portugal's roof

Torre, summit of the Serra da Estrela

This shows where it's at:
The white specks are ice in June, believe me

A landscape in the Serra da Estrela, Portugal

A little closer by

Rocks and snow, seen from the car window

and closer still

Snow in June, closer by

It's actually a mixture of frozen snow, sand and mud

Snow and mud, it looks dirty

Proof I was really there in person

The webmaster, Ruud Harmsen, on the Torre, the highest mountain of continental Portugal

Strange story:
Here on the roof of Portugal, thinking I had come from afar, I met a group of tourists from Finland:
from the upper right corner of euro land to lower left.
I recognized the sound of their language from a distance. And they confirmed it was Finnish.

The tower (Torre in Portuguese, hence the name) is 7 meters high,
completing the peak's altitude of 1993 m to reach 2000.
